Vonnie Truscott (aged 64 years) opened her arts and crafts shop in Whipton in 2006. Vonnie’s interest in arts and crafts has grown and grown over the years and so opening a shop seemed the natural next step and having a studio and crafts room means that Vonnie now has the space to practice her arts and crafts.
A member of the Link2 team visited Vonnie’s shop and they began chatting about the workshops that Vonnie runs and following on from this Vonnie was asked to run a workshop for the Link2 project.

The Link2 Craft Group meets every Friday afternoon from 1.00pm until 3.00pm and is for anyone over the age of 50 years. The group has seven members and each week they enjoy making greetings cards using all sorts of lovely card making things, have a go at Decoupage and much much more.
“I thoroughly enjoy running these workshops and I am sure that they all enjoy it too. It gives them some precious time out from every day life and an opportunity to meet some new friends and have fun doing something that they enjoy.” said Vonnie
Karol Chew, Link2 explained why groups like the Craft Group are so important for older people. “They may be feeling alone after the loss of a partner, they may have newly moved to the area and so haven’t made any friends, they may be that they have retired or there may have been a change in their health. Any of these could lead to a person becoming increasing isolated, anxious or depressed. The isolation that they feel can lead to reduced self confidence, and this coupled with low mood can quickly become a downward spiral.
This group and others that we run through Link2 aim to break this pattern, by enabling people to join in activities that bring enjoyment, friendship and a sense of achievement. This group run by Vonnie meets all of these goals and we are very proud of that.”
Vonnie also runs other regular workshops on all types of things including decoupage, stamping, embossing, sugar craft, water colour painting, jewellery making and fimo modelling. If you would like to find out more please email vonnie.t@btinternet.com.
