Barbara Eastman (aged 77 years) has lived at Halwill Junction for 17 years and before this she lived at Highampton in Devon. Although Barbara is good health she had been struggling cutting her own toe nails. She regularly attends the lunch club at the Winsford Trust and was very pleased when she was told that a toe nail cutting service was being set up.
Barbara explained, "As I am registered blind with only some sight cutting my toe nails was tricky enough and now that I am getting older it is also more difficult to reach down and cut them myself. I was thrilled when I was told that a toe nail cutting service was going to set up at the Winsford Trust.”
Barbara who lives across the road from the Winsford Trust now has her toe nails cut every six weeks by Louise who Barbara says is a real pleasure.
“Louise is lovely and we have a lovely chat each time I see her. Having my toe nails cut has made life much easier and so I am very pleased that the service has been set up. I know that I do not need the services of a chiropodist nor can afford them and so this service is absolutely perfect for me and many of the other ladies who I know.”
Barbara’s husband Burt unfortunately passed away six years ago but Barbara has a lovely story to tell about being married to Burt.
“For both Burt and I it was our second marriage. When we lived at Highampton I was married to Derek and Burt was married to Betty, we lived across the road from each other and all got on really well. Sadly my husband Derek passed away. Betty had always said to Burt ‘When I pass away I want you to be with Barbara, I don’t want you both to be on your own. Sadly Betty did pass away and after a while Burt and I did get together and we were married for seventeen years.”
