Maureen Dewar (aged 79 years) has lived in Exeter and in her home at Higher Barley Mount since it has been built nearly 50 years ago. She shared her home with her husband David who has sadly passed away and their children Karen, David and Jane. She thoroughly enjoys living here and still has the same neighbours on both sides who moved in when Maureen and David moved in.

Maureen has no problems with her feet and has been able to keep them fit and healthy but she has been unable to cut her own toenails for some time.
“I just cannot get down to do it, whatever position I try it is just impossible.”
Until recently Maureen had been visiting a local beauty salon and paying for a pedicure.
“It was the only way that I could get my toe nails cuts, there was no need for me to go and see a chiropodist but as I couldn’t manage myself I thought this was my only option. It is an expensive way to have your toenails cut even with the vouchers that my daughter often gave me for my birthday and at Christmas.”
Maureen’s niece works at the surgery in Exminster and she had seen a poster advertising the My Life My Choice Foot care service being offered in Exeter.
“I called up straight away when my niece gave me the number and they booked me straight away. I am picked up and taken to my appointment at Countess Weir Medical Centre and brought home afterwards. The transport is a service offered by Estuary League of Friends. I pay £5.50 for my toe nails to be cut and £5.00 for my car to get there and back.”
Maureen now has her toenails cut every six weeks and is absolutely thrilled with both the service that she has received and the money she is saving.
“I am really pleased with the service; I have my own set of clippers that I take in for each appointment. Louise who cuts my nails is very nice and gentle and so it doesn’t hurt at all. I am lucky that I do not have any complications with my feet but it is super that my toe nails are properly cut to ensure that they stay fit and healthy.”
